Immersive Playback at the Cedia Expo with a 29 Speaker System

Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

Playback Custom, PMC’s US distributor, will bring immersive audio expertise to the CEDIA Expo in Denver with a 15.1(6).8 PMC system, enabling show visitors to experience speakers that are the reference in Dolby Atmos mixing studios across the world, and demonstrating how ‘true-to-the-mix’ a residential cinema installation can sound.

The installation of the immersive cinema experience at CEDIA will be undertaken by Playback Custom and will feature 29 channels of immersive audio, including the popular ci series for the surround and height channels and models from the professional studio product range.

Located in Sound Room 6 on the show floor, the cinema will see the MB2 XBD used for the front left, centre and right channels. The ci140s will feature for the 12 surround channels and the height channels will be covered by eight ci65 speakers. Low frequencies will be handled by six of PMC’s phenomenally powerful professional-grade BST subwoofers, which boast the deepest, highest SPL and lowest distortion bass available from PMC. Its 15” ultra-long throw bass driver is capable of delivering 120dB and a frequency response that is flat to 17Hz.

Tyler Nelson of Playback Custom stated, “By showcasing this system at the CEDIA Expo, we aim to demonstrate to integrators the potential of delivering cinema systems that replicate movie soundtracks precisely as experienced by directors in the studio. We believe this solution will set a new standard in reproducing the artistic intent of filmmakers and anticipate it will generate considerable interest throughout the event.”

Adding his thoughts, PMC’s co-CEO and head of design, Oliver Thomas says, “This will be a definitive showcase of why the world’s top film studios depend on PMC’s precision-engineered systems to deliver soundtracks with uncompromising accuracy. It’s also a clear statement to high-end clients: if you demand reference-level cinematic performance, this is the system you install.”

PMC’s credentials in movie production can be traced back to 1993 when it supplied the then flagship BB5 monitors to Hollywood film score engineer, Shawn Murphy (Academy Award winner for Jurassic Park). Since then, many other notable composers and engineers, including Dennis Sands (The Lion King), James Newton-Howard (The Dark Knight) and Thomas Newman (Skyfall) have specified PMC monitors for use on the biggest blockbusters. PMC was recognised for its contribution to recording excellence with the awarding of an Emmy in 1996.

Demonstrations will be running throughout the show and on Oliver Thomas will be presenting tech talks on the products and PMC’s proprietary technologies. The 30 minute presentations will take place on 4 September at 10.30am and 5 September at 11.30am. Booking is essential due to limited seating, via info@playbackdistribution.com.

Playback Custom will also be present on booth 4425, with models from the ci series on display and its staff available to discuss integrators’ requirements.
