The origins of the MB2 XBDi can be found in the professional active version which is currently the reference for Emil Berliner / Deutsche Grammophon, Berlin.

The new passive version features the same PMC hand built 75mm mid range and twin twelve inch Radial™ bass units as the active but with the flexibility of choice of amplification due to its passive nature. The massively engineered hand built 32 element 24dB per octave crossover is housed in a dedicated enclosure and is mounted externally on the rear of the lower cabinet. As with the smaller models in the PMC range the MB2 XBD has undergone the series upgrade which includes the stunning SONOLEX™ domed tweeter unit and dispersion plate providing a beautifully delicate and open top end and pin point imaging.

The cabinets are constructed with a higher density grade Medite® with a staggered jointing process that ensures greater integrity and a more homogenous, stable structure. The cabinet is balance veneered with both the internal and external faces trimmed in real wood veneers with the outer in a sumptuous high sheen finish.

This statuesque twin cabinet tower arrangement not only provides increased low frequency headroom by 3dB but provides a smoother in room response with the output of bass energy produced throughout the height of the room eradicating the effects of uneven room nodes. The extremely powerful 12 inch Radial™ bass units sit at an extremely long, heavily damp ATL™ (Advanced Transmission Line) producing effortless detail and low frequency extension that is flat down to 20Hz. These seriously engineered units have an ability to produce and maintain a very low distortion output that is added to by the cooling effect of the cast alloy exoskeleton. This virtually eradicates the effects of power compression that is clearly apparent on lesser designs. Though a large scale monitor, the MB2XBD is highly efficient. Its optimized driver and crossover configuration produces a sensitivity of 91dB 1W/1m, making the choice of amplification very wide indeed. It is capable of huge scale performances and dynamics that will comfortably reproduce the most delicate vocals and instruments all listening levels.
