PMC’s founder and chairman Peter Thomas has once again assisted Elton John’s management company Rocket Entertainment by consulting on which tracks should be included in a fabulous new box set that has just been released.
Entitled Elton:Jewel Box, this unrivalled collection contains 148 songs spanning Elton’s career from 1965 to 2019. Deep cuts, B-sides and rarities from his back catalogue are included, giving a unique insight into his musical journey.
Peter, a long-time collector of Elton John’s early work, has a vast collection of the global superstar’s music, including many rare and unusual versions of songs and albums. Earlier this year he provided a never before heard demo version of the track Border Song for inclusion on Elton’s self-titled album (AKA The Black Album) that was release in August for Record Store Day. For this collection, Peter was not only asked to consult on track selection but he also helped Elton’s record label, Universal Music, by providing copies of some of Bernie Taupin’s hand-written lyric sheets, which he had in his own collection. These are now being used for online promotion. His assistance earned him a credit on the album sleeve and the gratitude of an artist he has long admired.
“I was delighted to be able to help with this project, which is a really wonderful tribute to a great artist,” Peter says. “Elton John’s team have unearthed some real treasures for this box set, including 60 previously unreleased tracks.”
One of these – Sing Me No Sad Songs – was first recorded in 1969 and has also been released as a single.
