PMC is today unveiling its groundbreaking prophecy series, a five-strong range of home audio speakers that embrace a host of cutting-edge technologies and a new aesthetic, that together define the future of sound. Now audiophiles and music lovers will be able to experience greater scale, realism, transparency, and musicality from speakers whose style embodies the latest design trends.
The five models in the range are the prophecy1, two-way standmount, and slimline two-way prophecy5 floorstander. The three-way prophecy7 and flagship prophecy9, which features dual bass drivers. There is also a matching centre speaker for multichannel systems, the prophecyC.
The prophecy series features a radical enhancement to the company’s Laminair technology which works in tandem with the Advanced Transmission Line (ATL). The patent-pending* LaminairX has undergone a radical redesign and unlocks the true potential of the ATL. It negates turbulence, which reduces resistance and harmonic distortion by up to 3dB. The result is elimination of air noise and a bass with precision timing and an unparalleled dynamic range. The newly developed aerodynamic vent is now incorporated into the heavy extruded aluminium base of the cabinet, which also serves to ground the speaker for even better control.
Our unique holistic design philosophy considers every element, from the drive units, crossover components, ATL, LaminairX vent, wave-guides and cabinet, to eliminate anything that detracts from the ideal musical experience. They have been designed together and are entirely interdependent.
Commenting on the benefits of this holistic design approach, Oliver Thomas, commercial director, says, “One of the most challenging areas when developing a range of speakers is to maintain the sound character from one model to another. We have achieved this with each speaker in the range through our holistic approach and 30-plus years of experience in developing the world’s reference studio monitors. From the diminutive prophecy1 through to the flagship prophecy9, an identical tonal presentation is maintained across this range of speakers that appeals to the discerning music lover.”
The long-throw bass drive units have been developed specifically for the range and are perfectly matched to the ATL. They are an incredibly linear design, which deliver the deepest frequencies, without imparting any colouration on the midrange, thanks to the combined effects of the LaminairX and ATL. The ultra-light, mica-filled cone material provides the ideal combination of rigidity, damping and weight to enable it to respond instantly to largest or subtlest audio signals.
The tweeter unit is professionally proven, having initially been employed in the professional near and midfield studio monitors. The 26mm soft dome, with Ferrofluid cooling, features a specially designed dispersion grille that assists with ultra-controlled directivity up to 180 degrees.
The three-way models incorporate a 55mm soft dome mid-range, also from the professional studio models and the Ci series—the reference for Dolby Atmos Music mixing worldwide and a favourite with high-end home cinema installations. Its distinctive ‘n-compass’ sculptured profile surrounds the high-frequency and midrange drivers, enhancing their response and integration so they act as one unit with an ultra-wide and stable image.
The drive units are connected via PMC’s well-known high-order, steep roll-off crossover design – a statement of engineering excellence. Its military-grade circuit board with ultra-thick copper tracks and gold through plating ensures non-inhibited current flow and greater reliability. Careful component selection, precision matching and optimised positioning provide low component interaction and low colouration. The steep filter slopes ensure that each drive unit works within its optimum range and presents a superb off-axis response for a wide listening window.
The prophecy series also embraces a new manufacturing methodology for PMC, which aims for greater sustainability. For example, the cabinet finish enhances the natural tactile features of the Walnut, Mediterranean Oak and Black using minimally invasive techniques. This also provides an aesthetic which is very much in keeping with modern interior design trends. The matched veneers are obtained from sustainable sources.
In further efforts to minimise the impact of the speakers on the environment, PMC has addressed the packaging. It has been designed for recycling, with cardboard replacing polystyrene, cloth bags instead of plastic, and is printed using non-toxic vegetable-based inks.
“We are very aware of the impact of manufacturing on the environment and are constantly striving to undertake efforts as a business to minimise our impact,” observes Jeff Willcocks, PMC’s CEO. “With prophecy we have expanded our efforts to reduce the impact of production through careful component and packaging selection, so prophecy will positively impact the global audiophile market, whilst at the same time not impacting the global environment.”
The grilles, held in place using concealed magnets and the bespoke open-weave, textured fabric, complete the prophecy aesthetic.
The prophecy series will be available globally from 1st February 2025
