PMC treated visitors to an exclusive show at the Bristol HiFi Show by playing never before heard Dolby Atmos music, supplied to PMC straight from the studio, for exclusive use at the event. In addition, PMC’s room, which also won the Best Home Cinema room award in the Clarity Best of Show awards, was at capacity for the duration of the event for both the Atmos presentations and the two-channel demonstrations using the twenty5 series and the company’s award-winning cor integrated amplifier.
The event also saw the UK debut of the Bryston SP4 processor, that was very well received by visitors, and used to such good effect with PMC’s multi-award winning twenty5 series loudspeakers, which also showed off their two-channel prowess in conjunction with the cor amplifier.
As the speakers of choice for Universal Music’s Dolby Atmos mixing suite at the world-famous Capitol Studios in LA, PMC showcased a truly authentic Atmos experience to the visitors that attended the show. The What Hi-Fi? reference surround speaker system was expanded into a 7.4.2 Atmos system, featuring six channels of twenty5.23 speakers, the twenty5.c centre channel and four of PMC’s custom installation wafer series for the height channels. Subwoofer duties were handled by a twenty5.sub and two professional twotwo sub2s for additional LFE required in the very large room. All speakers were powered by Bryston amplification.
The new Bryston SP4, a 16-channel surround processor, has been designed to offer the ultimate in-home cinema experience. Its Dolby Atmos®, Auro-3D® and DTS:X TM capabilities sit alongside conventional surround formats, providing maximum flexibility in set up and a truly immersive cinematic experience.
The twenty5 series that were on display featured a multitude of innovations, including a key development achieved as a result of the research into aerodynamics that was originally conducted for PMC’s flagship studio monitors, the QB1. In keeping with all PMC products, the foundation of the twenty5 series is Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) bass loading, which has been radically improved and enhanced with the new aerodynamically designed Laminair vent technology.
Designed and built by PMC in the UK, the cor integrated amplifier brought PMC’s holistic design philosophy to high-end electronics, for pure analogue music reproduction. It adds no sonic character of its own to the music, by following exactly the same design ethos for high resolution playback as used in the creation of all PMC loudspeakers, namely musicality, transparency and neutrality, where nothing is added and nothing is taken away.
The source material for the cor and twenty5 series demonstrations was provided by the Bryston BDP3 digital player and BDA3 digital to analogue converter.
