The BB5i is the largest of the three way, high resolution ATL™ reference monitors and has many claims to fame throughout the professional and audiophile world. Just one of these claims is to be the first loudspeaker to make Stevie Wonder get up and dance in the control room of his Wonderland Studios, which is no mean feat.
Combining the silky smooth i series tweeter, PMC 75 Soft dome mid and an imposing 15” Radial™ bass unit with the largest of PMC’s ATL (Advanced Transmission Lines) produces an awesome statement. Its muscular form goes some way to relay its ability to handle any large scale or dynamic piece of music with aplomb and delicate acoustic material rendered with agility and poise.
As with all the large three way stand mounted monitors, the BB5i features an internal hand built 24 dB per octave precision crossover network. Every component on this vast board has been hand selected and matched with the positioning painstakingly calculated for optimum signal and current flow. The striking Radial™ bass unit is of an identical design to that of the MB2i but has far greater power handling properties and greater cone area. This massive fifteen inch driver has the ability to produce huge excursions and continuous high quality output which is aided by the cooling effects of the exposed exo-skeleton that acts as a heat sink.
As with all PMC designs there are matching horizontal centre speakers (BB5-Ci) and subs (XB3) to create unparalleled surround sound combinations. Bespoke pre tuned ‘designer’ stands are also a feature of the all the large stand mounted models in the i series range and simply add to both the elegance and performance of the design.
No other passive loudspeaker offers this level of resolution and feeling of inexhaustible headroom.
